Course Description
Initially we will identify the various international bodies that impact on requirements: There are several peak bodies, that Australia has representation on, that provide guidance on standards or requirements for radiation protection. Who are they and what do they do?
What happens with the international requirements and how do we incorporate them at federal and state / territory levels: We will look at the progress of a new standard / guide within the Australian legislative framework to where it is put in practice at the enterprise level. This includes forums for consultation and the promotion of national consistency.
What is the structure of the local jurisdiction's Act and Regulations: Each jurisdiction has its own Act and Regulations that govern activities within its boundaries that are outlined.
Who are the key parties under the Act and what are their broad responsibilities: Who is the Responsible Person, what are the different authorisations within the jurisdiction and what is included in them? An important notation is understanding the role of conditions placed on an authorisation and the obligations it imposes.
The licence holder has defined responsibilities under the legislation, as does the Radiation Safety Officer.

- Describe the radiation health and radiation safety information provided by international bodies to Australian regulators to guide local legislation.
- Describe the structure of the Australian legislative framework (federal and state / territory) and the methods for consultation with stakeholders.
- Describe the key legislative requirements specific to radiation protection in the jurisdiction including broad responsibilities of the key parties and their authorisations and dose limits.
